What to expect
A well-defined gravel track with minimal gradient. The surface is generally firm but can become muddy after rain. Expect to encounter ponies, cattle and donkeys grazing freely—keep dogs under control and stand aside to let them pass. The route combines open heathland and light woodland typical of the Forest. Waymarking should be clear on established tracks.
Good to know
- Dogs welcome (keep under control near livestock & wildlife)
Open access; no charge. Dogs welcome but must be kept away from livestock and nesting birds (ground-nesting species are sensitive March–July). Wear suitable footwear; bring waterproof shoes or boots if recent rain has fallen, as boggy patches are common in the Forest. The track is not waymarked like formal paths, so stay on the main track.
