What to expect
A level, well-defined gravel track running through the heart of the Forest. The surface is generally firm and suitable for trainers or sturdy shoes, though muddy patches appear after rain. Minimal elevation gain. Expect to encounter free-roaming New Forest livestock — ponies, cattle and donkeys — grazing or moving across the track. Waymarking is clear.
Good to know
- Dogs welcome (keep under control near livestock & wildlife)
- Open to cyclists
Dogs are welcome on open access but keep them under control near grazing animals and away from heathland during bird-nesting season (March–July). Wear waterproof footwear or carry a change after wet weather; the gravel can become sticky. The track is free to use. Bicycles should be walked where livestock congregate.
