What to expect
Flat, open ground underfoot with short grass and heather. The path is well-defined and easy to follow. You may encounter free-roaming New Forest ponies, cattle or donkeys grazing nearby—keep dogs close and give livestock space. Surfaces can be boggy after heavy rain, so waterproof footwear is sensible. No steep gradients.

Dogs are allowed and can roam freely on open access land, but must be kept under control near grazing livestock and away from ground-nesting birds (particularly March to July). Wear sturdy, waterproof shoes; ground can be soft and wet. This is free, unrestricted access with no facilities on the route itself.
