A short, straightforward footpath on the open heathland south of Brockenhurst. Sandy Down offers easy walking across grazed grassland with views across the heath. The 710 m route is ideal for a quick stroll or as part of a longer circuit, and is suitable for all abilities and ages.

What to expect
Flat to gently rolling terrain underfoot, mostly firm grass. The path is well-trodden and easy to follow. You may encounter free-roaming ponies, cattle and donkeys grazing the heath — keep dogs under control and give livestock space. No significant gradient.
Good to know
- Dogs welcome (keep under control near livestock & wildlife)
Dogs are welcome on open access land but must be kept under control around grazing animals and away from ground-nesting birds (March to July). Wear sturdy walking boots in case of boggy patches after rain. No facilities on the route; Brockenhurst is close by.
