What to expect
Mostly level walking on forest tracks and open ground typical of the New Forest. The surface may be gravel or earth underfoot, with boggy patches possible after rain. You may encounter free-roaming ponies, cattle or donkeys grazing on the open access land. The route is straightforward with minimal waymarking needed given its length.

Dogs are welcome on open-access land but should be kept under control near livestock. Wear appropriate footwear for potentially muddy conditions, especially in wet weather. There is no charge for access. Ground-nesting birds nest on the heathland March to July, so keep dogs close during this period.
