Woods and Meadows Walk

A short, straightforward walk through mixed woodland and open meadow near Hythe. At just under a kilometre, it's ideal for a quick outing or families with younger children. The route combines shaded forest sections with glimpses of open grassland, typical of the New Forest's patchwork of ancient woodland and lawns grazed by free-roaming stock.

What to expect
Easy walking on well-trodden ground, mostly level with gentle gradients. The path alternates between shaded woodland and open meadow where ponies and cattle may be grazing. Surfaces vary from leaf litter to short grass. After rain, expect muddy patches in the meadow sections, though the walk dries quickly. Waymarking is clear throughout.

- Dogs welcome (keep under control near livestock & wildlife)
Dogs are welcome on the open access areas, but keep them under control near livestock and ground-nesting birds (March to July). Wear sturdy shoes or boots; waterproof footwear recommended after wet weather. No facilities on the route itself. Free access year-round.
