Woods and Meadows Walk
About this walking route
A short, easy walk through mixed woodland and open meadow near Hythe. The waymarked route combines the shelter of ancient and ornamental woodland with glimpses of the New Forest's characteristic grazing lawns. Ideal for a quick outing or introduction to the forest, this 1.5 km walk takes around 20 minutes at an unhurried pace.

What to expect
Flat walking on a mix of gravel forest track and grassy paths. The route alternates between woodland cover and open heathland or lawn where grazing cattle, ponies and donkeys may be present. Waymarking is clear. Underfoot conditions vary: gravel tracks are firm year-round, but grassy sections can be boggy after rain. No steep slopes.

Dogs are welcome on open access but keep them under close control near grazing livestock. Avoid ground-nesting bird areas (March–July). Waterproof footwear helpful after wet weather. No facilities en route; bring water if needed. Route is free to access.
