What to expect
A level, unpaved gravel and earth track with minimal gradient. The surface is generally firm but may be boggy or rutted after heavy rain. You'll pass through typical New Forest woodland with areas of open heath. The track is wide enough for all users—walkers, cyclists and horses. Ponies, cattle and donkeys roam freely, so expect to encounter livestock. Basic waymarking or track definition guides you.
Good to know
- Dogs welcome (keep under control near livestock & wildlife)
- Open to cyclists
- Open to horse riders
Keep dogs under control near grazing animals and away from ground-nesting birds (Mar–Jul). Wear sturdy walking boots or cycling shoes; mud is common after rain. Cycling is allowed but respect other users. There's no charge; use is free under open access rights. The route works well as a short loop or connection to longer paths in the area.
