What to expect
A straightforward walk on tarmac with minimal gradient. The path is well-defined and easy to follow, typical of New Forest carriage drives. You may encounter free-roaming ponies, cattle or donkeys on the adjacent open access land, so keep dogs close and under control. Ground is dry underfoot even after rain, thanks to the asphalt surface.

Keep dogs on a lead or under close control near grazing livestock and during the bird-nesting season (March–July), when ground-nesting birds are vulnerable. There is no charge for access. Casual footwear is fine given the smooth surface, but sturdy shoes are still recommended for walking in the New Forest.
