About this walking route
Test Way is a challenging 74 km walking route traversing the breadth of the New Forest National Park, starting near Totton. This multi-day walk passes through open heathland, ancient woodland and forest tracks, crossing terrain that ranges from well-maintained paths to boggy stretches. The route is waymarked throughout and suitable for experienced walkers with good fitness. Allow two days or break it into shorter sections.

What to expect
Predominantly gravel forest tracks and footpaths with some softer ground and potential boggy patches after rain. Terrain is generally rolling with occasional gentle climbs. The route crosses open heathland where visibility is good, and enclosed woodland where the path narrows. Waymarking is consistent. Expect to encounter free-roaming New Forest ponies, cattle and donkeys; keep dogs close and under control.
