Emer Bog Boardwalk
About this footpath
A short, accessible boardwalk through Emer Bog, one of the New Forest's wetland habitats. The raised wooden path keeps feet dry while offering views of heathland and boggy ground that would otherwise be impassable. Perfect for a quick leg-stretch near Totton, or as part of a wider walk across the open forest.
Highlights
- Raised wooden boardwalk through working bog
- Wet heathland habitat and wildlife viewing
- Easy, level walking on firm surface
- 10-minute round trip, minimal time commitment
What to expect
Level walking throughout on raised wooden planks, keeping you clear of wet ground and mud. The boardwalk is well-defined and easy to follow. You'll see open heathland and boggy terrain on either side. Free-roaming ponies, cattle and donkeys may be encountered. The short distance and firm surface make it straightforward underfoot.
Good to know
- Dogs welcome (keep under control near livestock & wildlife)
Dogs are welcome on open access. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip, as wooden boards can be slippery when wet. The route is short enough for all ages and abilities. There is no charge to walk here. Avoid between March and July if possible to minimise disturbance to ground-nesting birds.
