About this cycle route
A challenging 35 km off-road cycle route based around Fordingbridge, combining forest tracks, bridleways and open access terrain across the central New Forest. The route demands moderate fitness and bike-handling skills, with climbs, technical sections and variable ground. Expect a full morning or afternoon's riding through a mix of ancient woodland inclosures, open heathland and gravel forest tracks.

What to expect
Predominantly gravel forest tracks and bridleways with sections of harder-packed earth and looser stone. Gradient is variable with several notable climbs, particularly through wooded sections. Terrain can be muddy and rutted after rain. Waymarking is clear. Watch for free-roaming livestock (ponies, cattle, donkeys) grazing openly across the route, especially on lawns and heathland sections.

Bring a mountain or hybrid bike with decent grip. Ground-nesting birds are sensitive Mar–Jul, so keep dogs close. Forest tracks become boggy after heavy rain—plan accordingly. There is no charge for access. Fordingbridge is the nearest town for supplies and parking. This is a strenuous ride; assess your fitness and bike condition beforehand.
