What to expect
Expect a mix of field paths, riverside towpaths and country tracks, with occasional metalled sections. Terrain includes grassland, some woodland floor and potential mud after rain, especially near watercourses. Gradients are generally gentle, following the valley floor, but the sheer distance demands steady fitness. Waymarking is clear. You may encounter livestock grazing open areas.
Good to know
- Dogs welcome (keep under control near livestock & wildlife)
- Waymarked route
A substantial undertaking requiring good preparation, suitable boots and proper kit for multi-day walking. Dogs are welcome on open access but keep them under control near livestock and away from nesting areas March to July. Sections can be boggy after heavy rain. Plan accommodation or camping in advance; carry a map and check conditions before setting out.
