What to expect
An easy, level walk on well-maintained asphalt. The path is straightforward to follow with minimal gradient, making it suitable for all fitness levels. You'll encounter open access terrain typical of the New Forest fringe, where ponies, cattle and donkeys may graze nearby. The surface stays dry and walkable in all but the most severe weather.

Dogs are allowed throughout. The route is free and requires no parking fees. Wear comfortable everyday footwear — no specialist gear needed. Keep dogs under control near grazing livestock and avoid the area during Mar–Jul to protect ground-nesting birds. The towpath is on open access land.
