Water Vole Way
About this walking route
The Water Vole Way is a moderate 5.7 km walk from Totton exploring the damper woodland and stream habitats of the New Forest's eastern edge. Following waymarked paths through mixed woodland and along water courses, this route takes around 1 hour 15 minutes and offers a quieter alternative to the busier forest trails. Suitable for most walkers with reasonable fitness.

What to expect
A mix of woodland tracks, gravel paths and some softer ground near water features. The route is gently undulating rather than steep. Waymarking is clear throughout. Good to know
- Dogs welcome (keep under control near livestock & wildlife)
- Waymarked route
Wear sturdy walking boots—the ground can be muddy and boggy, especially after rain. Dogs are welcome on the open-access sections, but must be kept close to livestock and wild birds. There is no charge for access. The route is on public rights of way and open access land; carry a map as backup to waymarking.
