What to expect
Flat, easy walking on open access heathland and informal paths typical of the New Forest. Terrain will be relatively straightforward underfoot, though muddy patches are common after rain. Expect free-roaming New Forest ponies, cattle and donkeys — generally docile but part of the landscape. The route is well-marked, so navigation is straightforward. No significant gradients.
Good to know
- Dogs welcome (keep under control near livestock & wildlife)
- Waymarked route
Keep dogs on a lead near grazing livestock and during the ground-nesting bird season (March to July). Wear suitable footwear as paths can be boggy after wet weather. The route is free; parking and facilities should be checked locally before your visit. Part of the open New Forest — there is no charge for access.
