A 3.2 km moderate footpath between Burgate Cross and South Charford, ideal for a brisk 40-minute walk from Fordingbridge. The route crosses typical New Forest terrain: open heathland, patches of woodland and grazing land where ponies, cattle and donkeys roam freely. Well-suited to a half-hour outing or part of a longer day's walking.

What to expect
Gravel and earth tracks with sections of shorter grass underfoot. Gentle gradients typical of the forest; no steep climbs. Waymarking should guide you clearly between the two points. Expect to share the route with grazing ponies, cattle and donkeys. After heavy rain, boggy patches may develop in lower sections.

Dogs are welcome but keep them under control near livestock and away from ground-nesting birds between March and July. Wear sturdy walking boots as terrain can be muddy after rain. This is open-access land with no entry charge. The path is free to use year-round.
