What to expect
Level, easy walking on a well-established path. The route crosses open access New Forest heathland or forest edge, so expect firm ground underfoot in most conditions. Waymarking should be clear on this short section. You may encounter free-roaming ponies, cattle or donkeys; livestock are used to people but keep dogs under control.

This brief path is suitable for families and children. After heavy rain, muddy patches are possible but unlikely to cause difficulty on such a short walk. Wear sensible footwear. Dogs are welcome on open access land but keep them away from grazing animals and away from ground-nesting birds March to July.
