What to expect
Level walking underfoot on gravel with minimal gradient change. The path follows the railway embankment, giving clear and straightforward navigation. You may encounter free-roaming New Forest livestock — ponies, cattle and donkeys — grazing nearby, so keep dogs under control. After heavy rain, muddy patches may develop despite the gravel surface.

Dogs are welcome on this open-access footpath, but keep them under close control near grazing livestock and, if present, ground-nesting birds (March to July). No charge to use the route. Suitable for ordinary walking shoes or trainers; waterproof footwear advisable in wet conditions.
