About this cycle route
A challenging 112 km circuit that fully encircles the New Forest, mostly on forest tracks and quiet lanes. This is a serious day's riding demanding fitness and stamina. You'll pass through varied terrain: open heathland, ancient woodland inclosures, and commoning land grazed by free-roaming ponies and cattle. The route is waymarked and open to cyclists, though sections can be muddy or rutted after rain. Nearest town is Fawley.

What to expect
Predominantly gravel forest tracks and bridleways with occasional road sections on quiet lanes. Terrain is undulating with gradual climbs rather than steep hills. Expect muddy patches and ruts, especially after wet weather. The route is waymarked. You'll ride through commoning land shared with ponies, cattle and donkeys — they have right of way. Surface quality varies; some tracks are well-maintained, others are rougher. A full day's commitment at steady pace.

Bring plenty of water and food; there are limited facilities along the route. A capable hybrid or mountain bike suits the terrain better than a road bike.
